FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Nevada divers concluded first day at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships on Monday.
Laura Isabel Vazquez Lopez,
Lucia Gabino, and
Bailey Heydra represented the Pack in the 1-meter springboard.
Vazquez Lopez and Gabino finished in the top 18 during prelims, earning them a spot in the finals held in the afternoon. In the prelims, Vazquez Lopez was the top qualifier for the Pack finishing seventh with a score of 282.50 points. The senior was followed by the freshman Gabino who sat in 17th going into the final, with a score of 260.75.
In the final, Vazquez finished ninth, with 556.55 points. While Gabino wrapped up the day in 18th with 512.45 points. Only the top seven divers qualified to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
Heydra did not qualify to the finals after finishing 21st place, with a score of 256.30 points.
The Zone E Diving Championships continue for the next two days at Northern Arizona's Wall Aquatic Center. The women will switch springboards on Tuesday to the 3-meter, and then will compete on the platform on Wednesday.
