UP NEXT
Nevada returns to Las Vegas for the 2022 Air Force Reserve Mountain West Basketball Championship, set for March 6-9. The Pack will open play in the quarterfinals, March 7, with tip time and opponent to be determined.
LAST TIME OUT
Nevada went to extra time for the second-straight game Saturday at Utah State, but the result was not in the Wolf Pack's favor, as the Pack fell, 82-80, in double overtime.
The Pack had possession for the final shot in regulation, the first overtime, and the second overtime, but could not get the go-ahead bucket.
Da'Ja Hamilton scored a game-high 22 points, with
Kylie Jimenez filling the stat sheet with 15 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and five steals.
With 11 seconds left in the second overtime, the Pack turned the ball over on a five-second violation, and Utah State, on the ensuing possession, got the game-winner from Manna Mensah with a second left.
SCOUTING UNLV
UNLV (23-5, 15-2 MW) has already clinched outright the Mountain West regular-season title and the No. 1 seed at March 6-9's conference tournament, heading into Wednesday's finale.
The Lady Rebels are led by the play of Essence Booker (15.6 ppg, 3.71 apg) and Desi-Rae Young (15.3 ppg, 8.4 rpg).
JIMENEZ HEATS UP
Point guard
Kylie Jimenez put together one of her best stat lines in her time at Nevada, in Saturday's game at Utah State. Jimenez finished the game with 15 points, her second-highest total of the season, matched her season high with nine rebounds (Jan. 27 at Colorado State), passed out five assists, and matched her season high with five steals (Dec. 11 vs. Bushnell).
GOT THE BYE
Although Nevada didn't get the victory Saturday at Utah State, the Pack did get its first-round bye at the Mountain West Tournament thanks to Colorado State's loss to UNLV that afternoon.
The Pack will now open the conference tournament Monday, March 7, with its seed, opponent, and tip time all to be determined.
TOURNAMENT SEED SCENARIOS
The Pack, already with a first-round bye at the Mountain West Tournament in hand, can finish as high as the No. 3 seed and as low as the fifth seed following Saturday's finales.
Nevada will be the tournament's No. 3 seed if it defeats UNLV, and Wyoming loses to Colorado State.
Nevada will be the No. 4 seed if it and Wyoming each win, or if it and Wyoming each lose combined with an Air Force loss to San Diego State.
Nevada will be the No. 5 seed if it loses, and Air Force wins.
HAMILTON'S LAST FIVE
Senior guard
Da'Ja Hamilton is heating up for the stretch run and the Mountain West Tournament, as she's been lighting it up, of late, for the Pack.
Over the past five games, Hamilton is averaging 19.0 points per game, while shooting 45.6 percent (31-for-68) from the field and 47.6 percent (10-for-21) from 3-point range.
Over this same span, Hamilton has posted three 20-point performances, and has scored 22 in each of Nevada's past two contests (Feb. 24 at Boise State, Feb. 26 at Utah State).
