Nevada falls 3-1 against San Diego State

RENO, Nev. - Nevada volleyball fought to the end but was unable to come out with a win against the San Diego State Aztecs on Thursday afternoon.

Kayla Afoa led the offense with 12 kills.Afoaalso led the defense, with Hikialani Kaohelaulii, with 13 digs each.

Andrea Alcaraz served as the primary setter for the Pack with 15 assists.Alcarazalso recorded six digs.

How it happened

Nevada and San Diego State battled in the first set. The Aztecs and the Pack went back and forth until the media timeout, where San Diego State had a three-point score run to get on the lead. The Pack tied the game, but the Aztecs regained the lead and closed the set 26-24.

San Diego State kept the momentum going with an early lead in the set with a 5-3 score. Nevada made the comeback to tie the game 13-13 to hold the Aztecs close on the scoreboard. The Aztecs opened a 2-point lead, but the Pack tied the game at 23-23 after back-to-back points by Snyder. The Aztecs did not let the Pack's momentum influence them to close the 25-23.

Nevada continued to fight in the third set, as they tied the game, 10-10, after trailing 6-4 to San Diego State. The Aztecs regained their lead, but the Pack kept the scoreboard close, that led to a 25-20 win in the third set.

The Aztecs opened the set with a 4-2 lead. The Pack cut the deficit to a 6-5 score, but it was not enough to reverse the scoreboard, as the Aztecs opened a 10-7 lead. San Diego State kept their momentum going to close the set 25-16 and win the match 3-1.

Up next:

Nevada will stay home for a match Saturday against the Fresno State Bulldogs. The contest will be a senior day theme, where the Pack will honor Kayla Afoa and Andrea Alcaraz. Fans attending the match are encouraged to participate in the food drive.
