BOISE, Idaho - Nevada took a 3-1 win over Boise State on Thursday afternoon. The Pack is now in fifth place in the conference standings and battling for a spot in the Mountain West tournament. Â
Kayla Afoa continues to be a key player for the Pack offense, as she recorded 13 kills in the match with a .222 hitting percentage. Afoa also registered 12 digs, three service aces, one assist, and one block.Â
Andrea Alcaraz made 22 assists as the setter for the Pack. Alcaraz also recorded three service aces and eight digs.Â
Hikialani Kaohelaulii defended the back row with 19 digs registered in the match. Kaohelaulii also made seven assists.Â
How it happened
The Boise State Broncos started the match with a victory in set one. The Pack jumped on the scoreboard first, but the Broncos tied the game 10-10. The Broncos extended a lead to win the set 25-22.Â
Boise State continued the momentum as they jumped on the scoreboard first with an 8-5 lead. The Pack kept battling through the set to tie the game 20-20. The squad forced Boise State to call a timeout after a two-score run for Nevada, but it did not change anything as the Pack closed the set 25-20 after a five-nothing score run.Â
Both teams battled through the third set. The Pack and the Broncos kept the match tied until the 20-20 mark. Nevada took the lead thanks to back-to-back kills by McLaughlin, and a combination of attack errors by the Broncos closed the set 25-21 for the Pack.
The final set was no different from the others. Both teams continued to show resilience as they kept the contest even until the 7-6 mark, where the Pack took the lead. Nevada continued the momentum that led to a 21-17 lead in the set that forced the Broncos to call a timeout. The Broncos made a comeback to save the match point from Nevada. Both teams battled through, but Nevada took the set with a 27-25 win and the match 3-1.Â
