Nevada drops match against the Spartans

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Nevada fell 3-1 against the San José Spartans Tuesday afternoon. 

Kayla Afoa and Gabby McLaughlin led the offense with 12 kills each. Afoa also registered eight digs, three blocks, and one service ace. While McLaughlin had five digs, two blocks, one service ace, and one assist. 

Andrea Alcaraz registered 27 assists as the primary setter for the Pack. 

Bella Snyder defended the Pack's net with eight blocks. 

The Pack started the first set with a 4-1 lead. The Spartans tied the game 6-6, but Nevada had a three-score run to regain the lead. The Pack kept the momentum going to win the first set 25-20.

Nevada started the second set with a 2-0 lead, but San José State took the lead. The Pack called a timeout after a four-score run by the Spartans, which continued with their momentum to extend the lead to eight points difference. The Pack called their second timeout, but the Spartans closed the set 25-13. 

The third set belonged to San José State from the start. Nevada kept the game within two points, but the Spartans opened a seven-point lead to win the set 25-18. 

The same thing happened in the final set. The Spartans opened a 6-1 lead that forced Nevada to call a timeout. The Pack did not cut the deficit, and the Spartans closed the set 25-14 and the match 3-1.

Up Next:
Nevada volleyball will return home for a match against in-state rival UNLV Saturday at 1 p.m. The game against the Rebels will be a blue out. Fans are encouraged to wear their blue Nevada gear. There will also be a top hat giveaway until supply last.
