RENO, Nev. - Nevada won a battle of three hours against the New Mexico Lobos, 3-2, at the Virginia Street Gym Saturday afternoon.
Gabby McLaughlin led the team offense with 21 kills in a .302 hitting percentage. McLaughlin also registered a season-high of six service aces and two block assists. The freshman also led the back row for the Pack with 19 digs.
Andrea Alcaraz served as the primary setter for the Pack as she registered 31 assists. Alcaraz was also a key player in the defense, as she recorded 16 digs.
Freshman Bella Snyder had a great game after registering eight kills in a .667 hitting percentage. Snyder was also a key player on the net as she recorded ten total blocks, including two solos.
How it happened
Nevada took the early lead in the set, forcing New Mexico to call their timeouts. The Lobos tied the game at the 16-16 mark to reverse the score. The Pack regained control to close the set 25-23.
Nevada jumped on the scoreboard first in the second set. New Mexico tied the game 10-10 and gained the lead. Nevada fought back to win 26-24. The Pack offense came out to play as the team registered 13 kills.
The Lobos were not intimidated by the score, as they bounced back to take over the third set. Nevada fought until 12-11, where New Mexico made a five-score run to take the lead. The Pack reversed the score to 21-20, but the Lobos closed the set 25-21.
New Mexico kept the momentum going as they took over the fourth set. Nevada tied the game 17-17 to take the lead after a four-score run. The Lobos reversed the score to take the match to a deciding set.
The decision set was a battle between both teams, with scores going back and forth until the last point. The Pack was on the score early and had the match point, but the Lobos tied the game. Freshmen Nicanora Clarke and McLaughlin, back-to-back kills, close the set 17-15 and the match 3-2 for the Pack.

The Pack will now head to San Jose, Calif. for a mid-week match against the San José State Spartans on Tue. Oct. 18 before coming back to the Virginia Street Gym on Sat. Oct. 22 to face in-state rivals, UNLV.
