The Wolf Pack Report - January 2022

Dear Wolf Pack Fans:

Happy 2022!

Our campus is quiet right now as winter break continues for another two weeks. We look forward to the buzz of a new semester and the energy and excitement of students returning to our beautiful campus.

I wanted to share some great news with you. Once again, our teams earned a collective grade-point average (GPA) above a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. That's a B average for all student-athletes. This is the 15th time in the last sixteen semesters with a department-wide GPA above 3.0. This is truly impressive and shows the quality coaches, staff and students we have at Nevada.

The results are highlighted by:

  • 12 of 15 teams earned a 3.0 or better
  • Women's Golf earned highest team GPA (3.735)
  • Baseball had the largest increase with a 3.142 GPA and a remarkable 29 athletes with a 3.0 GPA or better – the most of any team.
  • 184 students (48% of all student athletes) earned a 3.0 GPA or better – every sport had at least four students with this GPA
  • 39 students earned a perfect 4.0 GPA – represented in these sports: men's cross country (2); football (3); men's golf, men's tennis; women's basketball (3); women's cross country (3); women's golf (2); women's soccer (6); softball (4); swimming and diving (4); women's tennis (2); track & field (7) and volleyball (2).

Congratulations to our student-athletes, coaches and staff who worked so hard to earn these results. We are grateful to the academic leadership across campus. At all levels of this university we enjoy great support and we are united in our efforts to promote student success. Many thanks to our faculty and staff for supporting the Pack and helping students pursue success.

Speaking of great results, I can't look ahead to 2022 without a brief look back at a marvelous 2021 highlighted by:

  • A Mountain West championship and NCAA Tournament appearance by Baseball; not to mention an NCAA record for consecutive games with a home run by Tyler Bosetti.
  • A Summer Olympics highlighted by a Bronze Medal by our former diver Krysta Palmer and our diving coach Jianli You serving on the Team USA coaching staff, and a Gold Medal for former men's basketball player JaVale McGee with USA Basketball.
  • Freshman cross country star Tierney Wolfgram became the first Wolf Pack athlete to run in the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
  • All-around super athlete Nicola Ader earned her sixth-career All-America honor, this time in the pentathlon at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, and qualified in the heptathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
  • Wolf Pack Athletics won the Silver State Series against our rival in southern Nevada.

We enjoyed a balanced and successful year and we are excited about the many great things to happen in 2022. Thank you for your great support of Wolf Pack athletics. Go Pack!

Happy New Year Wolf Pack Nation!
