Reno, Nev. – After finishing the fall with a 5-0 record, the Nevada swim and dive team is back in action for the first time in 2022 on Saturday. The Pack will be facing in-state rivals UNLV in two different venues, with the swim team competing at the Buchanan Natatorium, in Las Vegas, Nev. while the dive team will be traveling to Flagstaff, Ariz. to face the Rebels on the same day.
The swimming meet is set to start at 11 a.m. while the diving dual is set to start at 10 a.m. The Results can be found on the Meet Mobile app, or on Twitter (@NevadaSwimDive) and Instagram (@NevadaSwimDive) pages from the Nevada Swim and Dive team. Most recently, the swim team secured fifth at the Art Adamson Invitational. Seniors
Donna dePolo and
Wiktoria Samula finished second and fourth in the 100 breaststroke after acquiring the NCAA 'B' cut times and rank second and third in the conference. In the 200 breaststroke, dePolo and Samula finished fifth and 10th, respectively, with dePolo acquiring another NCAA 'B' cut.
Senior
Caitlyn McHugh had an outstanding performance after swimming the 1650 free in 16:33.10. McHugh posted a time of 51.09 in the 100, 1:49.19 in the 200, and 4:50.48 in the prelims of the 500 free. The senior was also an important piece for the Pack in the relays.
The Nevada swim team had two members finish the semester ranking second in the conference standings, with dePolo in the 100 breastroke and McHugh in the 1000 freestyle, and 1650 freestyle. The 800 freestyle relay squad was also placed second in the conference. The Pack also had members ranked third, with
Josien Wijkhuijs, in the 50 backstroke and 100 butterfly, Samula in the 100 breastroke, dePolo in the 200 breastroke, and McHugh in the 500 freestyle. The 200 and 400 medley relay squad were also ranked third after their performance in the Art Adamson Invitational.
Last time the Nevada diving team competed, the squad won the dual meet against Arkansas, with Freshman
Lucia Gabino and junior
Jessie Nowotny being the Nevada representatives in the 1-meter springboard competition. The Pack placed one and two with Gabino in first with a score of 295.58, while Nowotny placed herself in second with a score of 246.45.
Gabino notched a Mountain West freshman of the week after her performance against Arkansas.
ABOUT THE REBELS
The UNLV Rebels are the defending Mountain West champions. Recently, the Rebels came out at the top in a dual against UC Santa Barbara. Senior Teneka Ash secured the first place in the 500 free (5:00.99) and 1000 free (10:14.00). Sophomore Blanka Bokros swept her individual events as she won the 100 fly (55.79) and 200 fly (2:00.90). Sophomore Calysta Bartlett also had a pair of individual wins in the 100 breast (1:04.24) and 200 breast (2:19.31).
