Reno, Nev. - The Nevada volleyball team drops match against Idaho at Idaho Tournament this Saturday. Nevada was able to stop the Vandals on set three 25-21 after losing set one 25-18 and a tight 25-23 on set two. The Pack started set four ahead but falling short at the end, closing the set on 25-21 for the 3-1 loss.
Nevada starts the season with a 0-3 score and is looking to improve in next weekend's tournament.
The Pack was led by sophomore Reka Monteleone, who had 13 kills on the match. Andrea Alcaraz recorded 41 assists, while senior Kaila Spevak paced the team in digs (13). The freshman Sydney Wyman registered a solo block score that helped Nevada on the set point of set three.
Nevada started the game ahead but wasn't able to continue the momentum offensively, losing the set in 25-21. Kyla Waiters led the Pack with a .266 hitting percentage, and a block assist.
In the second set, Idaho used the 4-0 run to jump ahead, until Nevada was able to tie the game after a sequence of errors by the Vandals, but wasn't able to close the set after tying the game, losing the set in 25-23. Monteleone comes forward to lead the Pack in a .364 hitting percentage.
After a close second set, the Pack starts the set struggling offensively, but was able to tie the game 7-7 after a sequence of service aces by Spevak, and ends up taking a four-point lead, forcing the Vandals to call a time out. Freshman Sydney Wyman scored the block point that helped Nevada win set three.
Nevada continues the momentum by staying ahead in set four but wasn't able to hold Idaho off. The Vandals ties the game in 16-16 and takes the lead finishing the game in 25-21. Freshman Sia Liilii, helped the Pack in three kills, together with Monteleone, Petersen, and Wyman.
The junior Andrea Alcaraz was selected to be Nevada's representative on the All-Tournament Team after recording a total of 93 assists throughout the weekend.
The Pack will continue the season Sep. 3-4 on the road to play at the UC Davis Tournament, facing UC Davis, Santa Clara and San Francisco.
