CLOVIS, CALIF - The Nevada Track and Field team competed in the first day of the Mountain West Championships, which saw the first four events of the heptathlon and a couple of distance runners compete.
The 100 meter hurdles saw success by the Wolf Pack early on in the heptathlon. Senior Nicola Ader finished first in the event with a time of 13.79, earning her 1,008 points. Junior Hanah Smrt would finish with a time of 14.50. This being a new personal best for the junior, beating her old mark of 14.82 and earning her 909 points. Lastly, sophomore Anna Maria Sommerfeld would finish in eighth. Her time was 14.73, which earned her 878 points.
In the high jump, Ader once again impressed with a height of 1.73m. Tying her season best and earning the senior 891 points. Smrt would finish the event in eighth with a height of 1.55m. This earning Smrt 678 points. Sommerfeld would finish in 10th with a height of 1.52m. Earning the sophomore 644 points.
Ader finished with the fourth best time with a distance of 11.50m. This being .09m below her personal best and earning the senior 628 points. Sommerfeld earned a Nevada personal best in the shot put with a distance of 11.17m. Beating her old mark of 10.39m and earning her 606 points. Lastly, Smrt earned a distance of 8.77m which earned her 449 points.
The final event was the 200m dash, which saw Sommerfeld earn another personal best. Her time of 25.18 was not only good enough to beat her old personal best of 25.34, but earn her 870 points. Ader would also earn a new personal best of 25.61. This beating her old time by .10 seconds, and adding 832 to her total. Lastly, Smrt finished with a time of 26.06 and earned 792 points.
The late night event saw a couple of Pack distance runners compete in the 10k. Senior Lauryn Massic finished in 13th with a time of 36:39.88 in her last meet of her career. While in her first 10k with the Pack, junior Kate Rye finished in 16th with a time of 37:43.08
The heptathletes and other Pack athletes will compete in the second day of the MW Outdoor Championships. The first event starting at 10:30 a.m.
