LOS ANGELES, CALIF. – After competing in the MW Challenge yesterday, three of the Wolf Pack's multi athletes competed in the first four events of the heptathlon at the UCLA Invitational.
In the first day of the UCLA Invitational, senior Nicola Ader, junior Hanah Smrt, and sophomore Anna Maria Sommerfeld competed in the first four events of the heptathlon. The three multi athletes all finishing the day in the top-eight of the heptathlon.
The first event of the heptathlon being the 100 meter hurdles. Ader would finish in second with a time of 14.13, just behind Colorado's Avery McMullen with her time of 14.05. This earned the senior 960 points. Smrt finished the event in fourth with a time of 14.82. Not only earning her 866 points, but also earning beating her old personal best of 14.96. Sommerfeld would finish in seventh with a time of 14.89, earning her 856 points.
In the high jump, Ader would walk away with a tied-first place finish with her height of 1.71m and 867 points. Smrt would end the meet with another outdoor personal best with a height of 1.59m. This earning the junior 724 points and an eighth place finish. Lastly, Sommerfeld would earn 621 points and finish in 10th with her height of 1.50m.
The next event would be the shot put, which saw another outdoor personal best. Ader would earn 585 points and a fourth place finish with her distance of 10.85m. Sommerfeld would earn a new personal best with her distance of 10.39m. This earning her a seventh place finish and 555 points. Lastly, Smrt would finish in 11th and earn 453 points with her distance of 8.83m. Just under her personal best of 8.85m.
Lastly, the athletes would compete in the 200m dash. Sommerfeld would finish the meet in fourth, earning her 841 points with her time of 25.51. Smrt would finish in eighth place with a time of 26.21. Earning the junior 779 points. Ader would be right behind her with a time of 26.48. This earning Ader 756 points.
After the four events, Nicola Ader is in second in the heptathlon with a point total of 3,168. Anna Sommerfeld is sitting in sixth place with a point total of 2,873. Lastly, Hanah Smrt is placed in eighth with a point total of 2,822.
Tomorrow, the three athletes will compete in the last three events of the heptathlon. The first event will start at 11:00 a.m. at the UCLA Invitational.
