ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A high-powered offense combined with Kendall Fritz's standout performance on the mound lifted the Nevada softball team (15-10, 9-3 conf.) to a 7-0 series finale win over New Mexico on Sunday. Sunday's win clinched the series for the Pack.
Sophomore Kendall Fritz (6-3) went the distance in the circle for Nevada, throwing a complete shutout and striking out eight Lobo hitters. In seven innings, Fritz only gave up six hits. Fritz tallied 14 strikeouts throughout the weekend.
Freshman Chelie Senini led Nevada offensively, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate. Senini recorded two RBI and a double. Freshman Sam Oliver, who went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run, provided power for Nevada's offense. Senior Kenzi Goins also provided a spark for the Pack, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Lauren Gutierrez, Ashley Salausa and Charli Hawkins each recorded a hit.
How It Happened
Both teams were quiet until Oliver's three-run home run to right in the top of the second.
Nevada added to its lead in the fifth on Senini's RBI double to right, scoring Sellers and giving the Pack a 4-0 lead.
In the sixth, Goins' two-run shot to right extended Nevada's lead to 6-0. Then, Senini singled to left to score Mello and add Nevada's seventh run of the day.
