Pack earns fifth consecutive win after sweeping Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In Thursday's regular season finale at Air Force, the Nevada women's basketball team picked up its fifth consecutive win after downing the Falcons, 69-58.

With the win, the Wolf Pack finishes the regular season with a 13-8 overall record and a 9-7 mark in Mountain West play. This is the first winning overall and conference record for Nevada since the 2013-14 season when the Pack finished the regular season 17-12 and was 12-6 in league action. The Silver & Blue are on a five-game win streak and have won eight of its last 10 games. Nevada enters the 2021 Air Force Reserve Mountain West Championship as the No. 5 seed, its highest seeding in the conference tournament since that same 2013-14 season.

In Thursday's victory over the Falcons (7-17, 4-14), Nevada led the way on the stat sheet in many categories and used huge runs to build up a comfortable lead, but the game was not without its fair share of tense moments. The Wolf Pack led by 11 at halftime and continued to build on its lead in the third quarter. After the Falcons had cut the deficit to nine, the Pack went to work going on a 14-2 run, which included the first 3-pointer of Megan Ormiston's career, to claim a 20-point lead, its largest of the game.

Nevada took that 20-point advantage into the fourth quarter, but the Falcons made some noise in the period cutting into the Wolf Pack lead drastically. The lead remained comfortable still until around the 5:52 mark of the fourth when a 3-pointer from AFA's Kaelin Immel sparked a 9-0 run for the Falcons that brought Air Force within seven points. Overall to that point in the quarter the Falcons were outscoring the Pack by a 17-4 margin and seemingly had all the momentum with just over three minutes to play. Nevada locked in though and got key back-to-back baskets from Ormiston on two consecutive possessions that pushed the lead back out to double digits with two minutes remaining. In fact, the Wolf Pack defense did not allow another Air Force made field goal until there were just 14 seconds remaining and the team had a 13-point lead.

Rebounding was a huge point of emphasis for the Wolf Pack tonight after it was outrebounded by nine in last night's game. Nevada came out and owned the glass picking up 47 rebounds to AFA's 27. Da'Ja Hamilton led the Pack in both scoring and rebounding as she finished with a game-high 17 points and fell just one rebound shy of her first career double-double. Nia Alexander and Ormiston posted another strong outing with 14 points each, and Amaya West also reached double figures adding 11 points.

Nevada will be the No. 5 seed in next week's Air Force Reserve Mountain West Championship and play Monday, March 8 at 2:30 p.m. against the No. 4 seed, which is still to be determined.
