PALO ALTO, Calif. – With one round remaining at The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford, the Nevada men's golf team sits in a tie for seventh place in a crowded field.
The Wolf Pack shot a team score of 287 in Friday's second round and is at 11-over par overall for the tournament, tied with No. 19 SMU. Nevada has a four-shot cushion between staying inside the top 10 in Saturday's final round. There are currently only two teams in the field of 28 under par. No. 8 Arizona State leads the event at 9-under par and has a five-shot lead over tournament host Stanford heading into the third and final round.
Senior
Sam Harned continued his strong play as he fired an even par 70 in round two. While he didn't see quite as much red on his scorecard as he did on Thursday, Harned still posted a solid round making three birdies and 13 pars. After recording a 7-under 63 yesterday he remains at 7-under par for the tournament and in a tie for second place along with the 36
th-ranked player in the nation Noah Goodwin of SMU. Harned and Goodwin trail individual leader Blake Hathcoat of Saint Mary's by just one stroke.
The most improved outing for the Wolf Pack belongs to sophomore
Michael Sarro, who went from a round of 81 yesterday to a 72 on Friday. Sarro avoided anything worse than bogey on his scorecard today to jump 22 spots into a tie for 122
nd in the 146-player field. Senior
Brendan MacDougall notched the second-best Wolf Pack round of the day as he finished with a 1-over 71. MacDougall is currently at 3-over par for the tournament and in a tie for 36
th place. Junior
Trey Davis dropped into a tie for 79
th after a 76 on Friday put him at 8-over par, while senior
Sam Meek slid up into a tie for 108
th place after an improved round of 74 in round two.
