dePolo sets new school record at NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Nevada senior Donna dePolo set a school record time of 59.69, her first-ever sub-1:00 swim, in the 100 breaststroke during the NCAA Championships prelims on Friday. dePolo finished the 100 breaststroke in 21st place.

"It was a great morning swim for Donna, considering it was her first race of the meet. I don't think it could have gone much better for her," said Nevada head coach Brendon Bray. "The overall majority of the swimmers at this meet are adding time. Donna not only dropped time, but she also dropped an entire half of a second from her seed time. This is the first time a Nevada swimmer has broken one minute, and her 59.6 is our new school record. We couldn't be more proud of her. She has a huge opportunity tomorrow in the 200 breaststroke."

dePolo won her heat and moved up 21 spots from her seed time to 21st place. The NCAA only has an A and B final, so only the top 16 times advance to the finals.

dePolo will compete in Saturday's 200 breaststroke prelims estimated to begin around 7:40 a.m. PT. The 200 breaststroke finals are scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Heat sheets for Saturday will be sent out by the NCAA on Friday afternoon.
