UP NEXT
The Wolf Pack will play one rescheduled game next week, hosting Colorado State Friday, March 7, at 6 p.m.
RESCHEDULE UPDATE
While the Pack had four games total postponed (series with San Jose State and Colorado State) from Feb. 13-22, the Mountain West announced on Feb. 23 that, among the slate of games to be made up from March 1-7, Nevada will play twice.
After concluding this weekend's series at Utah State, Nevada was scheduled to head to the Bay Area for a single game at San Jose State on Wednesday, March 3, but that game was canceled due to COVID issues within the Spartan program. So the Pack will play just one makeup game, Friday, March 5 at 6 p.m. against Colorado State.
CAMBRIDGE, JR.'s CONSISTENCY
Redshirt junior guard
Desmond Cambridge, Jr. has scored in double figures in 16 of Nevada's 22 games this season, and his 23-point effort in Friday's opener was key in the Pack's near-comeback.
Cambridge, Jr. went 9-for-18 from the field, and 5-for-11 from deep, scoring 13 points in the second half as the Pack pulled to within two with 31 seconds left after trailing by as many as 21. It was Cambridge, Jr.'s sixth 20-point performance of the season, and his second in three games.
HYMES HEATING UP
Forward K.J. Hymes has become a viable go-to on the offensive end for Nevada over the last five games, scoring in double digits in three of them.
Friday, Hymes scored 15 points over a career-best 24 minutes, going 5-for-12 from the field while also grabbing four rebounds.
ALMOST ANOTHER WILD COMEBACK
Nevada trailed Utah State, 48-27, with 18 minutes remaining in Friday's opener, but nearly erased the 21-point deficit over the next 17 and a half minutes. The Pack got it down to two at 71-69 with 31 seconds to play, before Utah State hit three free throws in the final 30 seconds to finish the game.
The Pack has erased one deficit of at least 20 points this season, coming all the way back from 22 down at Wyoming on Jan. 24, but also fell in that contest.
