RENO, NEV. – The 2021 season for the Nevada track and field team saw tons of impressive marks and accomplishments over the year, which they will look to improve on as their 2022 season schedule has been released.
The first meet of the season for the indoor portion will be the Cougar Classic hosted by the Washington State Cougars. This meet will be on Jan. 15 and is the first time the team has competed in Washington during the indoor season since the 2018 season.
For the first time in team history, the Nevada squad will compete in the Dr. MLK Collegiate Invitational, which is hosted by New Mexico. This invitational was created in 2018 and will be the first time Wolf Pack athletes compete in it. The competition will be held on Jan. 22.
Heading back to familiar locations, the Pack will head back to Washington to compete in the Washington State Invitational from Feb. 3-5. Right after that, the team will conclude the regular season by going back to New Mexico and competing in the Don Kirby Invitational. The invitational is being held from Feb. 11-12 and will be the first time the Pack has competed in the meet since 2018.
Wrapping up the indoor season will be the final two championship competitions. The Mountain West Championships will be hosted by New Mexico from Feb. 24-26. The last competition will be the NCAA Championships held at Birmingham, Ala. from March 10-12.
Next on the new schedule is a busy outdoor season for the Pack. The team starts in Davis, Calif. for the Aggie Open on March 12. Earning a first-place team finish last season, the team will travel back to Sacramento to compete in the Hornet Invitational on March 19. In between their California trip, the Pack will send a limited squad back to the Texas Relays in Austin from March 24-26
Back to the regular-season schedule, the team will see six more meets in California. First, they will head to San Diego to compete in the Aztec Invitational from Mar. 25-27. Next will be the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto from April 1-2. That same weekend, the team will also compete in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco. The week of April 13-16 will see the team compete in the Mount Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif., and the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. The last outdoor regular-season competition will be the Fresno State Invitational that will be held on April 30.
Lastly, the outdoor season will conclude with three championship meets. The first being the MW Championships hosted by Fresno State from May 12-14. Next will be the NCAA West Prelims in Fayetteville, Ark. from May 25-28. Lastly, the NCAA Nationals will once again be held in Eugene, Ore. from June 8 - 11.
The Pack will be preparing over the winter for the start of their indoor season that starts in Washington, where they will compete in the Cougar Classic on Jan. 15.
