Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Nevada falls to San Jose State in five sets

Reno, Nev. - The Nevada volleyball team fought hard but dropped its match against the San Jose Spartans on Tuesday night. The Spartans won the first and third set in 25-21 and 25-12. The Pack was able to bounce back and win the second and fourth set in 25-20 and 25-23 pushing the match into a fifth set. Nevada had a great game but fell short in 15-12, closing the match in 3-2.

Senior Kyla Waiters and Junior Sydney Petersen recorded 15 kills each. Petersen also recorded four service aces, and three block assists, while Waiters had one block assist in the match.

Junior, Andrea Alcaraz recorded 43 assists, two service aces, and three total blocks.

As a team, the Pack recorded a total of 56 digs. Alcaraz led the Pack with 15, followed by freshman Sia Liilii (14), sophomore Reka Monteleone (13), and senior Kaila Spevak (11).

Nevada had a total of 49 kills, 47 assists, 10 service aces, seven total blocks.

In the first set, the Spartans took an early lead after a seven-score run, forcing the Pack to call a timeout. Nevada was able to cut the margin to 20-19, but San Jose State continued on the lead and closed the set in 25-21.

The Spartans continued the momentum and made a two-score run at the beginning of the set. Nevada tied the game 9-9, and took the lead in the set, forcing the San Jose State team to call a timeout. The Pack continued on the lead and closed the set in 25-20.

Nevada took the lead in the third set, but the Spartans were able to tie the game in 4-4. From that point on, San Jose State took the lead, after a five-score run, closing the set in 25-12, putting a 2-1 in the scoreboard.

The third set loss did not seem to bother Nevada, as they took the lead and did not let the Spartans get close to reversing the scoreboard until the 22-22 mark. The Pack was able to hold the lead and save the match by winning the set in 25-23.

In the deciding set, the Spartans made a 3-0 run early in the game. The Pack was able to tie in 4-4 and take the lead up to the 12-12 mark, where the Spartans reverse the scoreboard and close the set in 15-12 and the match in 3-2.
