RENO, Nev. – The Nevada women's basketball team lost a 59-43 decision to visiting San Diego State Thursday evening in Mountain West action.
It was a tough night for the Wolf Pack (4-4, 0-3 MW), which could not find its rhythm on offense for much of the game shooting just 21.3 percent for the game. Despite the rough shooting stretch, Nevada was in most of the game and did not let the deficit slip past 15 points until the 8:10 mark of the fourth quarter.
Even then the Wolf Pack trailed by single digits for most of the contest, until San Diego State (3-6, 1-2 MW) consistently kept the lead around 13-15 points for the final five minutes of the fourth quarter. The Aztecs did not post a particularly strong night on offense either as the Pack defense held them to just over 35 percent from the field and 20 percent from beyond the arc, but SDSU did enough to stay in front and posted just eight turnovers.
Nevada did lead on the glass, outrebounding the Aztecs with a season-high 50 rebounds to their 42, including 21 offensive rebounds. Junior
Megan Ormiston led the Pack with a career-high 11 rebounds, the first game of her career with double-digit rebounds. Seniors
Nia Alexander and
LaPraisjah Johnson also were strong on the glass, each collecting seven boards. Nevada had only one scorer reach points in double figures as junior
Da'Ja Hamilton finished with 13 points.
Nevada will conclude its two-game conference series with San Diego State this Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. from Lawlor Events Center.
