Grant Sherfield was named the Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance from Dec. 28-Jan. 3.
Sherfield averaged 24.0 points, 5.00 assists, and 4.0 rebounds over Nevada's two-game sweep of New Mexico in Lubbock, Texas. The sophomore point guard shot 54.5 percent (6-for-11) from 3-point range, and was nails from the line, going 16-for-18 (88.9 percent) for the series. Overall, Sherfield shot 46.4 percent (13-for-28) from the field.
He played a key role in the Pack's game-deciding run in each win. Thursday, Sherfield scored the first six points, and nine overall, of the Pack's 18-7 run midway through the second half -which extended Nevada's lead to 20 at 56-36. Two days later, with Nevada trailing, 70-69, Sherfield scored seven-straight points to cap the Pack's 11-0 run in the final minutes to take control at 82-71 en route to the 84-74 victory.
Nevada (8-3, 3-1 MW) heads back out on the road this weekend, visiting San Diego State for a two-game series. Thursday's opener is set for 7 p.m., with Sunday's finale a 6 p.m. tip. Both games will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
