COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – After 74 weeks since the Wolf Pack last competed, senior Nicola Ader got the 2021 indoor season kicked off with a fourth place finish in the Pentathlon at the Air Force Invitational.
Ader was joined on the track by junior Hanah Smrt and freshmen Alisha Pawlowski, who also competed in the Pentathlon. The meet first saw the student-athletes compete in the 60 meter hurdles. Ader finished with a time of 8.87, earning her 937 points and a second event finish. Smrt earned 869 points with her time of 9.20, while Pawlowski earned 587 points with her time of 10.70.
The athletes then moved onto the high jump, which saw all three finish in the top-10 with their heights. Ader, who holds the school record in the indoor high jump with a height of 1.83m, finished first in the event with her height of 1.76m. The performance earned her 928 points. Smrt finished ninth with her height of 1.55m, good for 678 points.
Pawlowski, competing in her first meet with the silver and blue, tied for second place with her height of 1.70m. The freshman jumped just .03 short from 10th all-time at Nevada, giving her 855 points. Pawlowski did not compete the rest of the day, and will compete again on Saturday in the high jump.
Next saw Ader and Smrt compete in the shot put. Ader finished in sixth with a distance of 10.01m, while Smrt finished in 11th with a distance of 8.75m. Ader would earn 530 points to her total while Smrt would earn 448 points.
Lastly, the athletes competed in the long jump. Both athletes finished in the top-four for the event. Ader finished with an impressive distance of 5.68m, which earned her a second place finish and 753 points. Smrt was just behind Ader with a distance of 5.35m. This earned her a fourth place finish and 657 points.
Both athletes would go on to not finish the 800m run. Despite this, Ader finished 4th overall in the Pentathlon with a point total of 3,148. Smrt finished the pentathlon 11th overall with a point total of 2,652. Both Ader and Smrt will join Pawlowski on Saturday and compete in the high jump.
Senior Emma Dern will compete in the weight throw and junior Gabby Fraser compete in the long jump tomorrow. Day two of the Air Force Invitational is set to begin at 8:00 a.m. pacific.
