Nevada wins Mountain West SAAC Community Service Challenge

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – For the fourth time in the past six years, Wolf Pack student-athletes have secured the Mountain West Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Community Service Challenge for Nevada, the league announced Thursday night.

"I continue to be so impressed with the commitment that our student-athletes have to community service and the time, energy and effort that they put into something that we hold as a fabric of who we are as a department," said Rhonda Bennett, senior associate athletic director. "It is so gratifying to work with student-athletes who understand the importance of giving back to the community that supports them."

The conference-issued challenge ran from March 2019 through February 2020 with Wolf Pack student-athletes posting 7,109.5 hours of community service in that span, 19.25 hours more than last year. The Nevada cheerleading squad led the way once again with an impressive 3,574.5 hours of community service within the past year and combined events and drives featuring multiple teams totaled a staggering 3,535 hours.

The football team finished as the other Pack team to compile at least 1,000 hours, up 347.5 hours from last year. The Wolf Pack had a total of 10 teams that turned in more hours this year than the year prior including cheer, football, baseball, cross country, track and field, women's basketball, softball, women's soccer, swimming and diving, men's tennis and women's tennis.

The Wolf Pack made a real push in the month of February as it racked up nearly 1,100 hours in that short month alone.
