Nevada set for midweek action at Saint Mary’s tomorrow

Game notes included

RENO, Nev. – Nevada (2-11) will travel to play at Saint Mary's (6-8) on Wednesday for its first midweek action of the season. The Wolf Pack is coming off a series split against California Baptist at home.

The Pack will not be broadcasting a radio stream on Wednesday, but the contest will be available via livestream on Stadium. Live stats will also be available thanks to SIDEARM Stats.

Nevada secured its first two wins of the 2020 season against California Baptist, with a 2-1 victory on Friday and a 6-4 win Saturday. In Nevada's Friday victory, Jake Jackson earned Wolf Pack Student-Athlete of the Week honors after picking up the win with 6.1 innings pitched, three strikeouts and only one earned run allowed. The Pack offense sprang alive on Saturday, tallying a season-high six runs scored on 10 hits to earn back-to-back victories.

In both of the Wolf Pack's wins, Blane Abeyta slammed the door on the opposing teams by earning saves in each contest. He finished with three innings pitched on the weekend, only allowing one hit and recording six strikeouts. In both games, he did not allow a single hit in either ninth inning.

Although he suffered the loss on Thursday, Owen Sharts has continued his dominant play for the Pack, as he is the current Mountain West leader in strikeouts with 32 on the year. That currently ranks 68th in the country.

One of the brightest spots for the Wolf Pack this year has been its defense, as the play behind the pitchers has been the best in the MW thus far, boasting a .983 team fielding percentage. That mark is good for 14th in the country.

The offense is picking up the pace a little bit more for the Pack, as veterans Dillan Shrum and Joshua Zamora are finding their strides for the Pack. Zamora is currently on a six-game hitting streak, while Dillan Shrum has reached base in all 13 contests this year.

The Gaels are currently on a roll, as they have won four of their last five games all at home. SMC's contest against the Wolf Pack will end a nine-game homestand.
