Nevada adds to 2020 recruiting class

Five members of this class already enrolled.

RENO, Nev. – The Nevada football team added three defensive backs and a quarterback to its 2020 recruiting class today, the first day of the traditional signing period for college football.

Combined with the 13 players signed in December and the enrollment this semester of previous signee Jamaal Bell, the Wolf Pack's class currently stands at 18, with five members of the class already on campus and enrolled at the University.

Included in the new crop of signees today are Devin Gunter, a 6-0, 180-pound cornerback out of Missouri City, Texas; Angel King, a 6-0, 175-pound cornerback from Los Angeles; Zeke Robbins, a 6-0, 185-pound junior-college cornerback from Chandler, Ariz.; and Nate Cox, a 6-9, 240-pound junior-college quarterback from Lafayette, La. Bell, a 5-10, 165-pound wide receiver from Southern California, originally signed with the Pack last year and is enrolled at Nevada this semester and eligible for spring practice.

"I am really excited about our class, especially when it comes to the athletic background of the guys coming," head coach Jay Norvell said. "This is a very physical class and they are bigger than what we have had in years' past. I like the athletic ability we've added in the secondary and at linebacker – these kids can all run. And we have a dynamic group of wideouts. I'm really pleased across the board.

"This is also a strong academic class. The majority of them are all 3.0 students. I love the character and academic background of the class and am very excited about the leadership that they bring."

Nevada has five players from the class enrolled this semester and eligible for offseason workouts and spring practice. That group includes Bell, Cox, and three early signees who graduated high school early – defensive back Marquese Allen-Patman, receiver Isaac Jernagin and linebacker Tongiaki Mateialona.

Nevada still has one scholarship available to give in the 2020 class.

Robbins played his prep ball at Arizona powerhouse Chandler High School before playing two seasons at Butler Community College in Kansas.

"Zeke is a very versatile and athletic kid," Norvell said. "He can play corner and his can play nickel. And because he is a junior college player, he comes to us with a lot of experience."

Gunter starred at Ridge Point High in Missouri City, Texas, and was already on the radar of new Wolf Pack coaches Bill Best and Freddie Banks at their previous institutions.

"He's another versatile athlete who played offense, defense and special teams," Norvell said. "Coach Best and Coach Banks were very familiar with him and he comes from a talent-rich area. He has really good ball skills and excellent speed."

King prepped at Locke High in Los Angeles where he played receiver on offense and cornerback on defense. He'll be a corner for the Wolf Pack.

"Angel reminds us a lot of (Nevada receiver) Romeo Doubs in terms of his potential as an athlete," Norvell said. "He's very long and can run. He's a kid with incredible potential."

Cox is a Louisiana product who began his college career at Louisiana Tech before moving on to Garden City Community College in Kansas. Last year, he through for nearly 1,900 yards with 12 touchdowns in 11 games at Garden City.

"Cox gives us a mature presence at quarterback," Norvell said. "He very tall and strong armed and he's a mature guy who will provide depth at the position and compete with Carson Strong. We were happy to get him in to school now to get a semester to learn the offense."
