MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Another day of the Mountain West Championships has finished and the Pack remains in second place with 729.50 points, behind leader San Diego State who has 1,058.
UNLV (617.5), Wyoming (597), Fresno State (534) and Colorado State (533.5) mark third through sixth, while Boise State (511.5) sits in seventh and New Mexico (393) in eighth. San José State (356) and Air Force (242) round out the day three standings.
The day started with the 400 IM prelims which saw all four competitors reach finals.
Julia Adamczyk made the A finals with an NCAA B cut time while
Benedict Nagy,
Gianni Pitto and
Alexandra Hartman were all in the B finals.
Sophomore,
Josien Wijkhuijs was the lone Wolf Pack swimmer to make finals in the 100 butterfly but
Colette Berkenfield and
Montana Lloyd finished 36th and 37th, respectively. Wijkhuijs was also the lone swimmer in the 100 back B finals after Lloyd just barely missed the qualifying time and finished 25th overall with a time of 57.24.
In the 100 breast all five of the swimmers in
Donna dePolo,
Wiktoria Samula,
Nicolette Jasko, Pitto and
Mikayla Dance made finals. dePolo and Samula in the A finals, both with NCAA B cut times and dePolo with the new school record time of 1:00.30. Jasko and Pitto made B finals and Dance made C finals.
Andressa Cholodovskis continued her winning ways with her first place finish in the 200 free prelims and along with fellow captain
Caitlyn McHugh, made A finals. Teammate
Destiny Kling finished 27th overall in the 200 free.
The night session opened up with the 200 free relay that was comprised of the squad: Wijkhuijs, Jasko, McHugh and Berkenfield. The Pack finished sixth overall with a time of 1:33.28 and scored 48 points.
Adamczyk finished fifth overall with a time of 4:18.83 in the 400 IM A finals and scored 25 points for Nevada while Nagy took 10th, Pitto finished 14th and Hartman took 15th. The four combined for 67 points.
Following the 400 IM was the 100 fly that saw Wijkhuijs finish 11th overall with a time of 54.61 just before the 200 free. The podium was once again visited by Cholodovskis who tied for the gold medal in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.35, it marked the first time a Nevada swimmer won the event since 2015. McHugh finished sixth overall with a time of 1:49.74.
In the A final for the 100 breast, Samula finished fourth overall in 1:00.37, a new season best just before dePolo came in fifth with a time of 1:00.42. Jasko took first in the B final and ninth overall, Pitto was 15th and Dance was 20th with a fourth place finish in the C final. The five combined for 88 points in the single event.
The night wrapped up with the 100 back and the lone finalist for the Pack, Wijkhuijs, took 13th overall and fifth in the B final with a time of 55.00. She was responsible for 30 individual points on the day and a member of the 48 relay points.
Competition continues Saturday morning with preliminary heats starting at 9 a.m. PT.
