BOISE, Idaho – After a strong performance that saw a school record broken, the Wolf Pack looked to finish strong in its final day of indoor regular season competition at the Boise State Challenge.
Sophomore Emily Costello, who broke the school record in the 200 meter dash yesterday, continued her success in the 400m dash. Costello ran an impressive 55.39 which increased her already fourth place Nevada all-time placement in the event. The time also earned her a first place finish in the meet.
The 400m dash also saw success from two other Wolf Pack athletes. Junior Lauren Green earned a second place finish in the event with a time of 56.79. The time only being 0.01 seconds slower than her personal best. Freshman Kelise Davis earned a time of 59.00 which not only was good enough for a seventh place finish but also earned the freshman a new personal best.
Davis was also part of the 200m dash finals, which saw the freshman finish in fourth place with a time of 25.70. Junior Brooke Carson shined in the event with a time of 25.49 that earned her a second place finish.
The 3000m run had three Pack athletes earn top-five finishes in the event. Junior Carli Corpus finished in second place with her time of 10:18.88. Just behind her was sophomore Lauryn Massic in fourth place with a time of 10:20.82 which was good enough to beat her previous personal best of 10:22.24. Finally, freshman Alexis Melendrez finished in fifth place with a time of 10:24.43 which was also good enough to beat her personal best of 10:38.19.
Freshman Adam Sjolund and other athletes from the men's cross country team traveled to Boise to run distance races on the track. Sjolund earned a sixth place finish in the 3000m run with a time of 8:42.26. Freshman Carson Leavitt who is a Reno native finished the run with a time of 9:02.55 which earned him a 13th place finish.
In field events, senior Gaby Palmer and sophomore Grace Wills succeeded in their respective events. Palmer early in the day earned a first place finish in the pole vault with a distance of 3.90m. Wills earned a fourth place finish and a new personal best with her distance of 12.90m in the shot put.
The Pack also had two top-five finishes from some of its juniors. Eliza McCall finished the 800m run with a time of 2:14.04 which earned the junior a fourth place finish. Stefanie Ortega earned a fifth place finish in the mile run with a time of 5:07.66.
This will conclude the indoor regular season for the Pack. The Pack will take a week off before it competes in the Mountain West Indoor Championship in Albuquerque, N.M. on February 27-29.
