BOISE, Idaho – The Nevada track & field team finished day one of the Boise State Challenge with a new school record, some new personal bests, and some qualified finals placements.
Sophomore Emily Costello highlighted day one with a new school record in the 200 meter dash. The sophomore out of Folsom, Calif. continues to add to her already impressive resume as her time of 24.06 moved her up from the number six spot to the number one spot at Nevada in the event. Her time was also good enough for first in the preliminaries and qualifies her to move on to the finals.
The 200m dash also saw four other Pack members move on to the finals in this event. Freshman Kelise Davis finished in fourth place and earned a personal best with her time of 25.53. Right below her was junior Brooke Carson in fifth place with a time of 25.58. Sophomore Cece Stevenson finished in seventh with her time of 25.71. Lastly, sophomore Anna Maria Sommerfeld just qualified for the finals in eighth place with a time of 25.76.
Earlier in the day, Brooke Carson had already qualified for the finals in another event. Her time of 7.84 in the 60m dash was good enough to beat her previous personal best of 7.89.
Cece Stevenson was just behind Carson in the 60m dash with a time of 7.86. While her time was good enough for tenth place, the sophomore just missed out on moving on to the finals. Anna Maria Sommerfeld finished in tenth in the 60m hurdles prelims with a time of 9.20. Her finish also just missing out on the finals.
The long jump saw two new personal bests from some Nevada sophomores. Gabby Fraser and Hanah Smrt both earned their respective personal bests in the event. Smrt finished with a distance of 5.60m, a distance that was .15m better than her previous best and was good enough for a fifth place. Fraser finished with a distance of 5.39m which was .11m better than her previous best. The distance earned her a sixth place finish.
The Pack will look to continue its success tomorrow as they compete in the final day of the Boise State Challenge.
