Talton and Strong receive weekly honors

RENO, Nev. – Nevada sophomores Brandon Talton and Carson Strong have received a pair of weekly honors following the Wolf Pack's 34-9 victory over Utah State on Saturday to remain undefeated at 3-0.

Talton was named the Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week after his performance against the Aggies, while Strong earned a spot on the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award's Great 8 list.

Talton helped pad the Wolf Pack lead towards the end of the game on Saturday, scoring Nevada's last seven points, which included a PAT and his two made field goals. He was perfect all-around against Utah State, going 2-for-2 on field goal attempts and 4-for-4 on PATs. Talton connected on a 26-yard field goal and a season-long 36-yard field goal during the contest. Those two makes helped him remain perfect on the season, hitting 6-of-6. He is one of two placekickers in the MW, and one of 17 around the nation, to have not missed a field goal attempt this season. Talton has made 12 consecutive field goal attempts dating back to last season.

Strong produced another huge performance on Saturday as he racked up 411 passing yards, three touchdowns and completed 69.2 percent (36-of-52) of his passes to help lead Nevada to its third straight win. All three of Strong's touchdown passes came in the first half and all were to junior wide receiver Romeo Doubs, putting Nevada up 21-9 at halftime. Strong also extended his streak of consecutive pass attempts without an interception to 282, which leads the nation and ranks second all-time in Mountain West history, trailing only Derek Carr's conference record of 306 set in 2013. He has thrown for 350 yards or more in five consecutive games, including three games of over 400 yards. Through three games in 2020, Strong is averaging 393.7 passing yards per game, which leads the MW and is second nationally.

Up next for Nevada, the Wolf Pack will travel to Las Vegas this Saturday, Nov. 14 for a neutral site showdown against New Mexico at 3:30 p.m. at Sam Boyd Stadium.
