RENO, Nev. – The Mountain West announced its 2020-21 conference game schedule for women's basketball Friday morning with the Wolf Pack slated to play 18 league games.
Subject to approval from state, county and local officials, the 18-game conference slate will begin for the Wolf Pack on Thursday, Dec. 31 and conclude on Tuesday, March 2.
Nevada, which finished 15-16 last season, will open up the conference portion of its schedule at home on Dec. 31 against Colorado State. The Pack will remain at home to open up 2021 with a contest on Jan. 2 against Wyoming. From there the team will hit the road for the first time in league action when it travels to Fresno, Calif. on Jan. 6 to face the defending MW regular season champion Fresno State Bulldogs.
It's back to Lawlor the following Saturday for a matchup against San José State and then a trip down to San Diego, Calif. on Jan. 13 to square off against San Diego State. That visit to San Diego kicks off a three-game road swing for the Pack as it will then make its way to Laramie, Wyo. and Fort Collins, Colo. to battle Wyoming and Colorado State.
Nevada returns home to Lawlor Events Center on Jan. 21 to host Utah State and will turn around and face Boise State at home two days later. The Pack will enjoy its first of two byes on Jan. 27 before heading to San Jose, Calif. the ensuing Saturday to take on the Spartans of SJSU. UNLV makes its way to Reno on Feb. 3 for an in-state rivalry contest and the first of two Silver State Series contests.
The Aztecs of San Diego State follow the Lady Rebels to Reno and will face the Wolf Pack on Feb. 6. It's back to the road for Nevada the following week as the team will make its way to Logan, Utah and Boise, Idaho for contests against Utah State and Boise State.
The four remaining games on the schedule will flip flop home vs. away as the Pack hosts the Lobos of New Mexico on Feb. 17 before making its way down to Las Vegas for a second Silver State Series game against UNLV the following Saturday. Nevada hosts Fresno State on Feb. 24, will welcome its second bye on Feb. 27 and then close out the regular season March 2 at Air Force.
The 2021 Mountain West Women's Basketball Championship will be held March 7-10 in Las Vegas.
It will be a new-look Wolf Pack for the 2020-21 campaign as the team returns six student-athletes from last year's roster, and welcomes in 10 newcomers. Returners include two seniors (
Nia Alexander,
LaPraisjah Johnson), two juniors (
Amaya West,
Da'Ja Hamilton) and two sophomores (
Alyssa Jimenez,
Dom Phillips). Alexander, Hamilton and Phillips all averaged six points per game last season, with Phillips leading the way at 6.6 points per game. Phillips was also named to the Mountain West All-Freshman team during her rookie season in 2019-20. The crop of newcomers includes four transfers and six freshmen.
The Wolf Pack's non-conference schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
