Second place Nevada hits the road for two MW road games this week

At Colorado State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. PT on ESPN3

NEVADA AT COLORADO STATE – WEDNESDAY, JAN. 29 – 6 P.M. – ESPN3
 
RENO, Nev. – Nevada (13-8, 6-3 MW) takes to the road two Mountain West contests this week starting at Colorado State (14-8, 5-4 MW) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. PT.  The Wolf Pack is tied for second in the MW standings with UNLV at 6-3 while the Rams are in a four-way tie for fourth t 5-4.  The game will air on ESPN3.

The Rams have won five of their last six games after starting MW play 0-3.  The Pack defeated CSU 67-61 in Reno earlier this year.  Four CSU players are scoring in double figures led by Isaiah Stevens' 13.1 points per game.  Preseason All-MW selection Nico Carvacho is averaging a double-double scoring 12 points and grabbing 10.4 rebounds per game.  David Roddy (12 ppg) and Adam Thistlewood (10.1 ppg) are also scoring in double figures.

The Pack are led by Jalen Harris who is second in the MW scoring 18.9 points per game.  Harris is scoring 22.6 points per game in MW play to lead the conference.  The Dallas product is tied for first on the team averaging 6.2 rebounds per game and is second dishing out 4.1 assists per game.  He was named the Jan. 27 MW Player of the Week, earning the honor for the second time this year.

Senior Jazz Johnson is second on the team and tied for sixth in the MW scoring 16.8 points per game.  Johnson leads the MW in 3-pointers made per game (3.3), 3-point percentage (43.1%) and 3-pointers made (69).  He also ranks nationally in all three categories.

Lindsey Drew tops the team with his 4.4 assists per game to rank fourth in the conference.  Drew is third on the team scoring 11.7 points per game. 

Senior Nisré Zouzoua scored a Pack career-best 20 points in the win over New Mexico on Saturday.  Zouzoua made 6-of-7 3-pointers in the victory and it was the first time he led the team in scoring. On the season he is averaging nine points per game off the bench.

THE SERIES
Nevada leads the series 15-9 and has won the last eight meetings.  Head coach Steve Alford is 11-3 versus the Rams.

ALFORD WINS 600TH GAME AS PACK DOWNS NEW MEXICO 96-74
    First-year Nevada head coach Steve Alford won his 600th career game when the Wolf Pack defeated New Mexico 96-74 on Saturday. Alford coached at UNM for six seasons and won 155 games during his time with the Lobos.  Alford is 600-306 in his 29th season.  
    Alford is the 16th active NCAA I head coach with 600 career wins.  He earned 78 victories at Manchester, 78 at Missouri State, 152 during his time at Iowa, 155 coaching at New Mexico and 124 at UCLA.   
    Alford's father Sam coached 29 seasons of high school basketball posting a record of 452-288.  The two have combined for 1,052 victories.  Steve played for his father at New Castle Chrysler High School in Indiana.  He played for legendary coach Bob Knight at Indiana and helped the Hoosiers to the 1987 NCAA Championship.  Knight posted a record of 902-371 in 42 seasons.

DREW MAKING MARK IN NEVADA RECORD BOOK
    Senior Lindsey Drew has played 130 games at Nevada and started 114.  The 114 starts is fifth at Nevada with Kevin Soares (1989-92) fourth with 116.  The 130 games played is tied with Deonte Burton (2010-14) with Nick Fazekas (2004-07) fifth with 131.  He has played in 87 wins during his time which is tied with former teammate Jordan Caroline (2016-19) for fifth.  His 3,631 minutes played is sixth at Nevada.
    Drew's 149 steals is seventh in Wolf Pack history and 477 assists is fourth.  Ramon Sessions (2004-07) is third with 478 career assists.  In the win over Colorado State he scored his 800th point and now has 874.    

PACK PLAYERS RANKED AMONG NCAA I ACTIVE CAREER LEADERS
    Jazz Johnson, Lindsey Drew, Jalen Harris and Nisré Zouzoua are all ranked among the NCAA I career leaders.
    Johnson's 1,454 points is 54th, 42.5 percent 3-point shooting is 24th, 119 games played is 78th, and 234 made 3s is 25th.  Drew ranks 93rd with 580 rebounds, 22nd with 477 assists, 41st with 149 steals, ranks 12th with a 2.2 assists turnover ratio and is 64th with 120  games played.
    Harris is 42nd shooting 84.5 percent at the free throw line and is 70th scoring 14.5 points per contest.  Zouzoua's 184 made 3-pointers is 102nd.

JOHNSON AND ZOUZOUA 1,000 POINT SCORERS
    Jazz Johnson scored his 1400th point and Nisré Zouzoua his 1200th in the win over Wyoming.  Johnson has 1,454 points in 119 games for a career averaged of 12.2 points per game.  He scored 740 of the points at Portland.
    Zouzua has netted 1,241 points in 104 games giving him a career average of 11.9 points per game. At Bryant he scored 1,025 of those points.

NEVADA IN THE NET
    Nevada has a NET ranking of 82 which is the tool that the NCAA uses to rank teams for post season play. The NCAA Evaluation Tool, which will be known as the NET, relies on game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency, and the quality of wins and losses.
    The Wolf Pack's overall strength of schedule is 51st and non-conference strength of schedule is 35th.  The Pack's basketball power index is 90 and kenpom.com ranking is 85.

HARRIS JAN. 27 MW PLAYER OF THE WEEK, EARNS SECOND MW WEEKLY HONOR
    Junior Jalen Harris has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week after helping the Wolf Pack to a pair of home wins that moved the team into a tie for second place in the conference standings.  Harris averaged 23.5 points, five rebounds and 6.5 assists in the two home victories.  It is the second time this season Harris has earned the award.
    In Nevada's 86-72 win over intrastate rival UNLV he scored a game-high 28 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out six assists without committing a turnover.  Harris made 8-of-17 field goals and 9-of-11 free throws in the double figure victory.
    Against New Mexico he scored 19 points, had five rebounds and a game-high seven assists without a turnover in the 96-74 victory.  From the field he made 7-of-17 field goals and was good on 4-of-6 free throws.

HARRIS LEADING THE PACK
    Junior Jalen Harris has scored in double figures in the last 17 games which includes a pair of 31-point games on the road at Air Force and Utah State.  The 31 points is his career high.  In the four of the last five games he has scored a game high.
    Harris' layup with just under 9 seconds to play against Wyoming gave the Pack the 68-67 victory.
    Harris tops the team in scoring (18.9 ppg), is tied firsts in rebounding (6.2 rpg) and is second in assists (4.1 apg).  The 18.9 points is second in the Mountain West and 22.6 in MW play is first.  The assist numbers rank fifth in the MW and the rebounds ninth.
    Nine times in the last 16 games he has scored 20 or more points including the two 31-point games.  In the win over Santa Clara he posted his first career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.  His game-high eight assists left him two shy of a triple double.
    In nine games he posted game highs in points, eight times he posted a game-high in assists and four times a game-high in rebounds.
    From the field he is shooting 43 percent, 35.7 percent from behind the arc and 83 percent at the free throw line to rank fourth  in the conference.
    Harris injured his foot in the season opener with Utah playing just 8 minutes and missed the LMU game.  He returned to the lineup against UT Arlington and scored a game-high 24 points in the victory.

JOHNSON LEADING MW AND NATIONALLY RANKED IN 3-POINT SHOOTING
    Wolf Pack senior Jazz Johnson ranks second on the team and is tied for sixth in the MW scoring 16.8 points per game.  Johnson's 19 games scoring in double leads the team.  He scored a 
a career-high 34 points in the Pack's win over Boise State.  Johnson made a career-best eight 3-pointers on 12 attempts.  The 34 points, eight made 3s and 13 made field goals all rank second in the MW this season.  
    The eight made 3s is tied for the third most in a game at Nevada.  He also tied for game honors with a career-high seven rebounds.
    Johnson scored his 1,400th career point in the Wyoming win with 740 coming at Portland.  Currently in 119 games he has scored 1,454 points.
        He has made a 3-pointer in each game this season and three or more in 15 contests.
    Johnson has been knocking down the 3-pointers at a high rate this season having made 69-of-160.  The 69 made 3s is 11th nationally, 3.3 per game is 13th, and 43.1 3-point percentage is 20th.  He tops the MW in all three categories.
    Five times he has scored 20 or more points; 20 vs. LMU, 26 vs. USC, 25 vs. BGSU, 20 vs. SCU and the 34 vs. BSU.  In the USC, BGSU, SCU and BSU games the point totals were game highs.
    He is shooting 82.6 percent at the free throw line.
    At the Paradise Jam he made 60 percent of his 3-pointers connecting on 15-of-25 in three games.  In the title game he made 7-of-10.  

DREW DOING IT ALL IN FINAL SEASON AT NEVADA
    The versatile Lindsey Drew is doing it once again in his fifth and final season at Nevada.  Drew missed all last year after rupturing his right achilles tendon at Boise State on 
Feb. 14, 2018.  
    The do everything guard returned with a flair scoring a career-high 30 points in his senior debut against Utah.  He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out eight assists.  In the next game he scored 24 points, had nine rebounds and five assists in a win over Loyola Marymount.  Both point totals were game highs.
    In 13 games he has scored in double figures which is the most double figure scoring games for him in a season, passing the 10 he had his junior year before the injury.  He leads the team in assists (4.4 apg) and rebounding (6.2 rpg).  From the field he is shooting 48.4 percent.  In total he is ranked in six categories in the conference.
    Twice he has posted double-doubles with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the Paradise Jam Championship game win over Bowling Green.  Against TSU he scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season and fourth of his career.
    In seven games he posted highs in assists; vs. Utah (8), LMU (7), UTA (4), at Air Force (6), vs. CSU (6), vs. BSU (9) and at SJSU (5).  The nine assists in the BSU game tied his career high and is the high for a Nevada player this season.  In another four games he posted game highs in rebounds; LMU (9), vs. Bowling Green (10), at Air Force (8) and TSU (10).

ZOUZOUA SCORES 20 IN WIN OVER NEW MEXICO
    Senior Nisré Zouzoua has provided a spark off the bench this season and in the New Mexico led the Pack in scoring for the first time with 20 points.  Zouzoua knocked down 6-of-7 shots from behind the arc.  The 20 points and six made 3s are both highs for him during his time at Nevada. 
    Zouzoua is fourth on the team averaging nine points per game.
    In three of the last four games he has scored in double figures and 10 times on the season.
    He scored nine points in each of the first two games of the season which were then Nevada career highs.  Against UT Arlington he nearly doubled that netting 16 points, making 6-of-8 shots from the field of which 3-of-5 were from behind the arc.
    At the Paradise Jam he averaged 11 points per game. He scored 11 points in the win over Fordham and 15 in the victory against Valparaiso.

NEVADA TIED FOR SECOND IN MW STANDINGS
    At the halfway point for Nevada, having played nine-of-18 Mountain West games the Wolf Pack is tied for second place with UNLV at 6-3.  San Diego State leads the MW with a perfect 10-0 mark.
    Colorado State, New Mexico, Boise State and Utah State are all tied for fourth, just one game back of the Pack at 5-4.  The Pack plays at CSU and BSU this week.
    Air Force and SJSU are tied for eighth at 3-6 with Fresno State in 10th with a 2-7 record.  Wyoming is 0-10 and looking for its first conference win of the season.

ZOUZOUA SCORES 20 AS ALFORD EARNS 600TH VICTORY


RENO, Nev. – Senior Nisré Zouzoua led six Nevada (13-8, 6-3 MW) players that scored in double figures with a Wolf Pack career-high 20 points as first-year head coach Steve Alford won his 600th game as the Pack defeated New Mexico (16-6, 5-4 MW).  Alford's record is 600-306 in his 29th season with 155 of those wins coming during his six seasons at UNM.

The Pack took control of the game in the first half building a 20-point advantage 49-29 at halftime. In the first half Nevada knocked down 9-of-16 three pointers and by the end of the night it would be 17-of-35.  The 17 made 3s tied the school record and set a new Lawlor Events Center record.

With just under 9 minutes to play the Pack had increased its lead to 28 and settled for the 18-point victory.  In addition to Zouzoua, Jalen Harris (19), Zane Meeks (13), Jazz Johnson (12), Lindsey Drew (10), and Johncarlos Reyes (10) scored in double figures.

Reyes posted his first double-double at Nevada grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds to go along with his 10 points.  Harris finished with a game-high seven assists and Drew added six.  Drew also had eight rebounds, a block and a steal.

The Pack dominated the glass outrebounding UNM by a season best 24, 50-26.  Nevada's bench outscored UNM 40-11.  The Pack had 23 assists on 35 made field goals.

Boise State is 13-8 overall and is in a four way tie for fourth in the MW standings at 5-4.  Nevada won the first meeting 83-66 as Jazz Johnson scored 34 points making 8-of-12 3s.  The Broncos are 9-1 at home and 4-0 in home MW games.  Derrick Alston tops the team scoring 19.2 points per game.  Nevada has won the last eight meetings.
