Nevada sweeps home tournament with win over California Baptist

RENO, Nev. - Coming off a three-set victory over Gonzaga last night, the Pack picked up a five-set intense victory over California Baptist. Nevada is now 10-2 on the season and has won nine of the last ten matches.

Kayla Afoa and Kili Robins were both named to the All-Tournament Team for the Nevada Invitational while Afoa was named the MVP for her performances.

Nevada took the second, third and fifth sets while California Baptist took sets one and four. Each of the sets won by the Pack came at a score of 25-19 and then the fifth was a win, 15-12.

Dalyn Burns recorded another double-double to her name with 53 assists and 14 digs while Afoa had 20 kills and 14 digs. Joining Afoa with double digit kills is Robins (17) and Souza (13). Mandalay Rennon and Afoa both also tallied two service aces.

The match came down to the fifth and deciding set with the Pack taking an early 5-2 lead forcing a CBU timeout. The timeout however was not effective as the Pack stayed aggressive with Ryan Blackwood at the service line, 12-10, Nevada. California Baptist called its final timeout of the set before Afoa landed a kill to go up, 13-10. The Lancers committed an attack error to set up match point for the Pack and Afoa sealed it with an ace, 15-10 Nevada.

Mountain West play begins on Thursday for Nevada as the Pack travels to Fresno, Calif. to take on Fresno State at the Save Mart Center. Live stats and stream will be available through nevadawolfpack.com.
