FRESNO, Calif. - The Nevada volleyball team hit the road for its first conference match on the season. The Pack (10-3, 0-1) fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs (8-5, 1-0) Thursday in three sets.

The sets went 25-21, 25-20, and 25-20. Freshman Sydney Petersen and junior Kassie McGill and junior lead the offensive strike with eight kills each. Dalyn Burns tallied 26 assists with Kayla Afoa responsible for 16 digs. 

This match was the true definition of back-and-forth. There was a total of 27 tied scores and 17 lead changes. In the first set, the two rallied back and forth exchanging points with the largest difference being two until the Bulldogs went on a 4-0 scoring run to take the lead, 21-18. Nevada called a timeout to regroup but Fresno State closed the set out and took it, 25-21. 

Set two was not much different in that the two teams were either tied or one point apart until Burns recorded back-to-back service aces and the Pack took a 12-7 lead. This time, Fresno State called a timeout and it was perfectly timed because they went on a 5-0 scoring run to tie it up, 12-12 before Nevada called a timeout. Once the Bulldogs went up, 21-17 the Pack struggled to find the offense again. Fresno State won, 25-20. 

When the third set started it looked like Nevada had found the offensive rhythm again, maintaining the lead midway through, 14-13, but the Bulldogs climbed back and took the lead, 18-16 when Nevada was forced to call a timeout. Following the timeout, Fresno State went on a run and claimed five of the next eight points, 23-19 and completed the first sweep of Nevada with a final score of 25-20. 

Nevada returns to Virginia Street Gym on Saturday as the Pack hosts San Diego State, Sept. 28 at 1 p.m. PT. Tickets are on sale at NevadaWolfPack.com.
