RENO, Nev. – Nevada women's golf coach
Kathleen Takaishi has announced the Wolf Pack's 2019-20 schedule, which includes a mix of familiar tournaments and new ones.
For the first time in eight years the Wolf Pack will not open the season at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Colorado. Instead the team will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to kick off the year Sept. 9-10 at the Dick McGuire Invitational. The Pack is no stranger to this tournament, however it has been five years since it last participated, placing 16
th in 2014.
The team's only other event in the month of September will be the Coeur d'Alene Collegiate Invitational in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Last season the Pack competed in this event for the first time and finished just outside the top 10. After a couple of weeks away from competition, Nevada will return to the course at the Harbottle Invitational in Lakewood, Wash. for the first time. The event will be played at Tacoma Country and Golf Club and is being hosted by Seattle University.
The Wolf Pack will conclude its four-event fall season Oct. 27-29 at a tournament it is more than familiar with, the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. This year will mark the seventh straight season the Pack will compete in this event. In that seven year span, Nevada produced its best finish last season as it placed ninth.
The spring campaign will get underway Feb. 10-11 at the Battle at the Rock, a tournament hosted by UC Riverside at Oak Quarry Golf Club. Nevada scored a sixth place finish at the event last season and sophomore
Victoria Gailey picked up a top five individual finish. The Pack will stick to familiar events as February continues, participating in the Rebel Beach Invitational Feb. 17-18 in Las Vegas. Gailey also recorded a top five at this event last season.
The Gunrock Invitational awaits the Wolf Pack as the month of March gets started. The tournament will be played March 2-3 at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, Calif. Nevada placed just outside the top five here last year. The following week the team will make its return to the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Kailua, Hawai'i. The Pack has competed in this event five times in its history with next season marking the first time since 2015.
As the regular season wraps up, the Wolf Pack will compete in the Fresno State Classic March 30-31 as final preparations for the Mountain West Championship. Nevada has played in this tournament for four consecutive seasons and won the event in 2017.
Next season's Mountain West Championship will be played in mid-April with the official dates still to be determined. For the eighth consecutive season the site for the championship will be Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
At the conclusion of these 10 events, the Wolf Pack will see if it can qualify for NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2003. NCAA Regionals will be held May 11-13.
