Wolf Pack drops series opener to Fresno State with 5-3 loss

Tomorrow’s game slated for 6 p.m.

RENO, Nev. – Despite a three-run bomb from Kaleb Foster in the sixth inning to bring Nevada (25-21, 11-14 MW) back within one run, the Wolf Pack dropped its series opener against Fresno State (28-13-1, 13-7-1 MW) 5-3. Even with the Friday night loss, Nevada has still won five of its last seven games against the Bulldogs.

Tomorrow's game is slated for 6 p.m., as Nevada will host its first Pack-A-Palooza prior to first pitch. Fans in attendance will be able to participate in carnival games, face painting, balloon animal making and much more.

Ryan Anderson (4-4) earned the start and pitched 5.1 frames with three strikeouts and four earned runs. Shane Gustafson and Grant Ford came on in relief, as Ford tossed two perfect innings including three strikeouts.

The Bulldogs got on the board first in the second frame with an RBI-single up the middle by Nolan Dempsey that scored McCarthy Tatum to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead on Friday night. Dempsey continued his big night with two more RBI in the sixth, tripling to left center to give the Dogs a 3-0 lead. The sixth ended with a Fresno State 4-0 lead thanks to another RBI single to right field.

Foster hit his second home run of the season and his first since season-opener over the left-field wall to give Nevada three runs on the night. The Pack remained within striking distance the rest of the night, but Tatum's 10th homer of the season gave Fresno State a cushion and a 5-3 lead.

Ford was untouchable in the eighth and ninth innings for the Pack, striking out three of his six batters faced and not allowing a baserunner to keep Nevada in the game. Unfortunately, Nevada could not score another run and the Bulldogs took the victory.

Tomorrow's contest will be available via live stream on the Mountain West and John Ramey on the call on 94.1 FM/1450 AM. Tickets are available online or by calling (775) 348-PACK.
