Ader breaks long jump school record

Moves into top 10 nationally for heptathlon

AZUSA, Calif.  – Nevada women's track and field sophomore Nicola Ader broke the long jump school record at today's final day of the Bryan Clay Invitational and Multis. Ader went on to finish ninth in the heptathlon with a point total of 5,590. The total score puts her atop the Mountain West and near the top nationally and regionally for the heptathlon.

After putting up 3,328 total points on day one, Ader started day two with the long jump. On her third and final attempt, the sophomore reached 20' 7.75" (6.29 meters) to top the event and move from third to first all-time at Nevada. Ader now owns school records in the indoor high jump and outdoor long jump. Heading into the weekend, the mark is tops in the Mountain West and 11th in the west. Nationally, the jump would rank 19th.

The record-breaking leap is 10" (0.27 m) further than her previous personal record, and approximately 5" (0.13 m) greater than the previous school record. The previous record was set in 2017 by Kadeisha Hield.

Ader followed up the record-breaking performance with a 110' 4" (33.63 m) throw in the javelin to up her point total to 4,814 with just the 800m race to go.

Ader would clock a time of 2:23.55 in the 800m to bring her point total to 5,590. The point total ranks first in the Mountain West, third in the NCAA West Region and seventh in the NCAA going into this weekend. The score is good for third all-time at Nevada.

Freshman Anna Maria Sommerfeld kicked things off with a 16' 10" (5.13 m) mark in the long jump. The leap earned her 595 points to sit in fifth place in the 14-person field. Sommerfeld followed up her long jump performance with a second-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 128' 2" (39.08 m). With just the 800m to go, the freshman had 4,141 points. The score eclipsed her season-high mark of 3,913 from the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational, where she did not finish the 800m.

The Brandenburg, Germany native finished the day running 2:31.38 in the 800m for 676 points to bring her final score to 4,817. The score was good for fourth in her group
