Shrum homers twice in drubbing of rival UNLV

Ties season-high four game win streak

RENO, Nev. – The bats came alive for Nevada (20-17, 9-10 MW) on Friday night against UNLV (22-17, 9-10 MW) as the Wolf Pack matched its season-high in runs with a 16-8 victory. Junior Dillan Shrum homered twice, and now leads the Mountain West with 10 on the season.

Shrum has been lights out against the Rebels this year, as he has homered five times against UNLV in four games. The Pack is now tied with the Rebels 2-2 on the season, as Nevada will go for the series victory tomorrow at 6 p.m.

Eight out of nine Pack starters recorded at least one hit, as five of them tallied multi-hit games. Shrum and catcher Marco Valenzuela each led the team with four RBI, as Tyler Bosetti led the team with four runs scored.

Shane Gustafson (2-0) picked up the victory for Nevada, pitching two innings and only allowing three hits and one unearned run while striking out three Rebels. Ryan Anderson earned the start and went 4.2 innings while striking out three.

Both teams opened with a run in the first inning, but Nevada then took charge by gaining a two-run lead after two frames thanks to a fielding error and a sacrifice fly by Nick Seamons.

The Rebels battled back and tied the game in the fourth, but Nevada responded with a four-run inning that was capped off by Shrum's first homer of the day.

An RBI double and single by the Rebels put them within two, Nevada exploded with six runs to take a 13-5 lead. The inning was highlighted by a three-run double thanks to Jaylon McLaughlin.
Each team scored three more runs in the contest to finish with a 16-8 final, including Shrum's second two-run homer of the day in the sixth inning.

The Pack will look for the series victory tomorrow at 6 p.m. in game-two of its three-game series against the Rebels. John Ramey will have the call on 94.1 FM/1450 AM, with the broadcast being live streamed on the Mountain West Network.
