Three homers not enough as UNLV evens series with Pack

Rubber match slated for 1 p.m. tomorrow

RENO, Nev. – Despite three homers by Nevada (20-18, 9-11 MW), the Wolf Pack dropped the second of its three-game series with UNLV (23-17, 10-10 MW) falling to the Rebels 7-4 on Friday night. One of the three homers on the day came from sophomore Conor Allard, the first of his career.

The rubber match between Nevada and the Rebels will be tomorrow at 1 p.m. John Ramey will call the game on 94.1 FM/1450 AM.

Nevada got off to a hot start, as Weston Hatten blasted his sixth homer of the year over the left field wall to give the Pack a 1-0 advantage. Owen Sharts started the game hot, striking out two of the first three batters faced.

UNLV came back in the third, thanks to a single and a groundout that scored two runs. The Rebels added more to their lead in the fourth, with two more RBI-singles plating two more.

The Rebels plated their last three runs in the sixth to take a 7-1 lead over the Pack. However, the next inning is when Allard launched his first jack of his career to cut the deficit to two.

Beginning in the seventh inning, Josh Congress came in to pitch for the Pack and was lights out. The junior recorded a strikeout in six of his nine outs and only allowed one hit.

After a leadoff walk to Hatten in the ninth, Joshua Zamora blasted his eighth homer of the year to cut the lead to three. Unfortunately, Nevada wouldn't get another baserunner and would fall to the Rebels 7-4

Zamora's two hits and two RBI were tops on the Pack for the night, as Hatten's two runs scored also led the team. Sharts suffered the loss after tossing four innings with five strikeouts and four earned runs.

With a win tomorrow, Nevada would tie the season series with the Rebels at three games each.
