RENO, Nev. – The University of Nevada (8-6) women's tennis team put together a dominate performance at the McArthur Tennis Center on Saturday defeating Sonoma State (8-5) by a score of 4-1. With the victory the Wolf Pack improved to 8-6 while the Seawolves fell to 8-5.
The Pack opens Mountain West play on Friday at intrastate rival UNLV at 10 a.m. then returns home to host San Diego State at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Nevada earned the doubles point after
Adriana Gergelyova and Roos vanReek won 6-3 on Court 2 and
Selina Turulja and
Maria Tatarnikova clinched the point with a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.
The Pack won the next two singles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
Marta Ruedas cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6, singles and
Roos van Reek posted a 7-5, 6-2 victory on Court 2.
The Seawolves' Jensyn Warren defeated the Pack's
Adriana Gergelyova 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 to score Sonoma State's lone point of the match.
Anastaysha Gorbacheva needed three sets to clinch the match downing Hannah Highsmith 6-3, 1-6 and 6-1 to make the final score 4-1.
