Divers set for NCAA Zone E Championships

RENO, Nev.  – With hopes of extending the season even further, the Nevada diving squad sets its eyes on the NCAA Zone Diving Championships March 11-13 in Flagstaff, Ariz. In order to qualify for the NCAA Championships, a diver must finish in the top eight in either the 1-meter or 3-meter springboard, or place ninth or higher in the platform dive.

The Wolf Pack will compete in Zone E and will bring four of its divers to the event, where each person will compete in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard as well as the platform. Senior Toma Shmitova is coming off a platform gold medal at the Mountain West Championship. Freshman Laura Isabel Vazquez Lopez who won the 3-meter also took home silver in the 1-meter.

Linnea Sorensen and Victoria Rice will be joining in Flagstaff after finishing in the top-8 at the MW Championships. Sorensen took fifth in the 1-meter along with an eighth place finish in the 3-meter and platform; she will be competing in the 1- and 3-meter. Rice claimed the bronze medal in the platform and scored in each of the 1- and 3-meter dives and will be competing in all three dive events.
