Nevada drills three homers in 8-1 win against Washington State

Series even at 1-1

Reno, Nev. – The Nevada baseball team (7-2) bounced back on Friday afternoon against Washington State (3-7), smacking three home runs in its 8-1 win and first home victory of the season. Joshua Zamora launched a grand slam in the eighth inning to cap off the Wolf Pack's big day.

Ryan Anderson (3-0) remains undefeated in three starts after only allowing one run in six innings pitched and two strikeouts. Ky Bush (0-2) suffered the loss for the Cougars.
The contest began in the Cougars' favor, as they loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the first. A fielder's choice allowed a runner to score from third, but that would be it as the Pack would score eight unanswered to win the ballgame.

Anderson dominated following the first inning, shutting out Washington State through the next five frames and received some help offensively to earn him the win in the sixth. With runners on the corners and two outs, junior Wyatt Tilley blasted a double over the head of the right fielder to score both runners and give Nevada a 2-1 lead.

Earning his first start in left field on the season, redshirt sophomore Otis Statum launched his first-career homerun over the batter's eye in center field to increase Nevada's lead to 3-1. The second homer of the day came later in the inning when junior Dillan Shrum smacked a solo shot over the right field wall to give the Pack a 4-1 lead after seven frames.

Zamora put the game out of reach in the eighth, with the bases loaded and two outs for his second-career grand slam and first of 2019. Nevada totaled 10 hits on the afternoon compared to the Cougars' seven, with a team-high two coming from Shrum and redshirt sophomore Conor Allard.

The final three innings were cleaned up by Shane Gustafson and Bradley Bonnenfant on the mound for Nevada, as the two combined to only allow one hit.

The rubber match is slated for 1 p.m. tomorrow against the Cougars. No live stream will be available, but Alex Margulies will be on the broadcast with an internet-only call as well as live stats.
