LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Nevada volleyball moves to 17-10, 7-8 on the season after falling to the UNLV Rebels on Thursday night in four sets. The set scores were: 24-26, 26-24, 19-25, 21-25 with the Pack winning the second set.
Kassie McGill led the offense with 11 kills while only committing two errors on 20 attempts for a .450 hitting percentage. McGill also posted five blocks with four assists and one solo.
Sydney Petersen also helped on both sides of the ball, recording six kills with zero errors on 13 attempts for a team high .462 hitting percentage while also tallying four block assists.
In the first set, Nevada started off a little out of sync allowing UNLV to up 8-2 but rattled six points off to tie it up, 8-8. A kill from Petersen tied it back up, 16-16 before and attack error would the Wolf Pack its first lead of the set, 18-17. Nevada again was ahead looking at set point when the Rebels called a timeout, 24-22 but UNLV scored three straight to put them up, 25-24 and eventually taking the set on an attack error from Nevada, 26-24.
The second set was similar in that the score was 26-24 but it was in favor of the Wolf Pack. Nevada tied it up, 5-5 and went on to take the lead after a Petersen kill. Later in the set with Nevada up, 21-18, UNLV called a timeout before scoring three points in a row to tie it up, 22-22.
Lee Nelson then followed with a timeout before the Pack sealed the set, 26-24 on a kill from McGill.
UNLV got out to its largest lead at the beginning of the third set, 7-1 forcing Nevada to call a timeout. The Pack rattled a couple points off but the Rebels maintained its lead throughout the set. A kill from McGill pulled the Pack within three points, 18-15, but a service ace from the Rebels and a couple attack errors put UNLV ahead, 23-18 and clinched the set on a kill, 25-19.
After dropping the first few points of the set, the Pack struggled to find its rhythm it had in previous sets. With the score, 18-13 in favor of the Rebels, Nevada called timeout and won the next three out of four points to pull within three, 19-16. However another run from UNLV saw them at match point quickly, 24-18. The Pack held it off for three points thanks to back-to-back blocks from McGill but a kill from the Rebels took it, 25-21.
Next on the schedule for the Pack is its last road contest of the season as it travels to Albuquerque, NM to take on the Lobos. The match is set for noon first serve and can be found on the Mountain West Network.
