Nevada drops contest to New Mexico Lobos on Saturday afternoon

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - The Nevada volleyball team is now 17-11, 7-9 on the year after dropping a three-set match to the New Mexico Lobos. The set scores were: 25-19, 25-17 and 25-21.

Nevada was led by Kili Robins who posted a team high eight kills, Camryn Rocha recorded seven and Kayla Afoa had six. Ryan Blackwood had the lone ace of the match for the Pack while Dalyn Burns led with 18 assists. On the defense, Brianna Souza had a team high three block assists while Kaila Spevak had 11 digs.

The Pack struggled to find its rhythm on either side of the ball through the first two sets. New Mexico took the first points of each set and stayed in the lead for the entire first and second set as the Pack tried to climb its way back into the match. In the third set, Nevada hung around with the Lobos through the second half of the set.

New Mexico got out to 7-3 lead in the third set but Nevada scored two out of the next three to cut the deficit to just two points. Not to much later the Pack saw itself within one point, 11-10, but the Lobos rattled off three points to put them back up by four. Back-to-back attack errors and a ball handling error by the Lobos saw them calling a timeout with the Pack down by just two, 18-16.

Following the New Mexico timeout, the Lobos scored two points and Nevada called a timeout. Three straight points for the Wolf Pack and New Mexico took its last timeout only up by one, 20-19. An Afoa kill gave Nevada its first lead of the match, 21-20 but the Lobos finished on a 5-1 scoring run sealing the win, 25-21.

Up Next for Nevada is its last two matches of the season as the Wolf Pack host Wyoming and nationally-ranked #12 Colorado State at Virginia Street Gym. The match against Wyoming will be a white out with a 6 pm first serve on Nov. 21st before Senior Day against Colorado State on Nov. 23rd, starting at noon.
