COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After back-to-back dual meet wins for Nevada, Wiktoria Samula and Laura Isabel Vazquez Lopez sweep the Mountain West honors this week. Samula, a sophomore swimmer was named the swimmer of the week while Lopez, a sophomore diver took the diver of the week accolades. 

The Pack picked up a win over Mountain West foe, Fresno State, 179-102 on Friday night before continuing the streak with a 190-106 win over UC Davis on Saturday afternoon. Both Samula and Lopez played a key role in the success on the weekend.

Samula, a Lublin, Poland native, swept her individual events on both days, winning the 100 and 200 breaststroke while also being a member of the winning 200 medley relay against UC Davis. She won the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.05 and the 200 breast with a time of 2:15.84 against the Bulldogs on Friday. Against UC Davis, Samula claimed the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.96 and the 200 breast in 2:16.89, while swimming the second leg of the 200 medley relay that finished in 1:43.26.  

Lopez claimed wins in both 3-meter events for the top two diving scores in the 3-meter this season for the Pack and in the Mountain West. The Guadalajara, Mexico native scored a 358.13 against Fresno State for the second highest score in the Mountain West before taking the top spot in the conference with a 362.63 against UC Davis for her season best. Along with her 3-meter success she finished second in the 1-meter event against UC Davis with a score of 312.75, good for second in Mountain West.

Nevada is now 4-0 in dual meets and has one invitational win on the year over Washington State, San Diego State and Idaho. Up next, the Pack meet with the Broncos of Boise State in Reno, Nev. on Nov. 2 at 11 am for the final dual meet until the Phill Hansel Invitational.
