Souza plays hero in Nevada’s 2-1 win over Wyoming

Brown scored team-high fourth goal of season

RENO, Nev. – Nevada (4-13, 3-7 MW) closed out its final home match of the season with a huge 2-1 victory over Wyoming (7-7-4, 4-5-1 MW) on Sunday afternoon in Mackay Stadium. Gabby Brown scored her team-high fourth goal of the season to tie the match in the second half, and Hannah Souza scored under a minute later for the game-winning goal in the 74th minute.

The Pack will play its final match of the regular season on Friday at rival UNLV. The contest will be livestreamed on the Mountain West Network.

The first half was a defensive battle between the Wolf Pack and Cowgirls, with only five shots on goal between the two teams. Nevada keeper Kendal Stovall recorded two of her nine saves in the second half.

Stovall went on a tear in the second half, saving seven Cowgirl shots in the final 45 minutes. However, in the 55th minute, Indianna Asimus scored her sixth goal of the season thanks to a great feed from Michaela Stark.

Shortly after, Souza took over for the Wolf Pack and on a breakaway, drew a penalty in the Cowgirls' box. Brown took the penalty shot, and although it was initially saved, she stuck with it and immediately pounced on the rebound to put it in the back of the net.

Less than a minute later, Souza found room down the left side after being left alone and sprinted into a one-on-one matchup with keeper Riley Furbush, pushing her shot along the ground into the back right corner for the game-winning goal.

The Pack totaled seven shots in the contest with five on goal, with Brown and Lieb leading the way with two each.

Nevada's contest against the Rebels will kick off at 7 p.m. on Nov. 1 to conclude the 2019 regular season.
