SAN DIEGO – The University of Nevada women's tennis blanked Point Loma 7-0 on Saturday afternoon. With the victory the Wolf Pack went 2-0 the opening weekend in California. Friday the Pack knocked off UC San Diego 5-2.
"It was a great week end for the team," head coach
Guillaume Tonelli said. "Winning two matches early on will definitely give us a lot of confidence for next week end in Phoenix. I am very happy with the way we competed. We couldn't train very much because of the weather this past week, and the players showed a lot of heart throughout the entire weekend. I am very happy about my two freshmen, they played well and are representing our University with a lot of pride.
The Pack got wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to earn the first point of the match.
Adriana Gergelyova and Roos vanReek won 6-4 on court one and
Melissa Huchet and
Lili Fekete 7-5 on court three.
The Pack dominated singles play for the second day in a row, winning all six matches, five in straight sets. Fekete at No. 1 singles need three sets to down Shelby Groeneveld 4-6, 6-2 and 10-4. Hutchet won 6-4, 6-1 over Gabi Armas on court two. Gergelyova's 6-2, 6-2 victory over Taylor McGowan on court three clinched the match for the Wolf Pack.
On court 4 vanReek won 6-0, 6-2,
Selina Turulja won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and
Maria Tatarnikova cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the No. 6 match.
Nevada returns to action on Jan. 26-27 in Phoenix taking on Grand Canyon and Arizona Christian the first day and Southern Utah on day two.
