LA JOLLA, CALIF. – The University of Nevada women's tennis team opened the 2019 spring season with a 5-2 victory at UC San Diego on Friday afternoon. The Wolf Pack continues its two-game road trip to California at Point Loma on Saturday at noon.
Trailing 1-0 after the doubles competition the Pack won five consecutive singles matches to get the win. Roos vanReek got it started with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles over Valeria Corral. At No. 5 singles
Selina Turulja downed Anu Bhadada 6-2, 6-4 to put the Pack ahead to stay 2-1.
Melissa Huchet made it 3-1 with a 7-6, 6-1 victory on court 2 over Alexandra Weil.
Lili Fekete clinched the match at No. 1 singles defeating Ashley Chao 6-2, 2-6 and 6-1. Nevada's final point came from
Adriana Gergelyova 6-7, 6-3 and 11-9 over Becky Chou. UCSD's Shweta Kumar won the No. 6 singles match 3-6, 6-4 and 10-4 over the Pack's
Anastaysha Gorbacheva to earn the Triton's second point.
In the doubles competition Ashley and Becky Chou defeated Gorbacheva and Marta Ruedes 6-4 in the No. 1 doubles match. UCSD clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory by Bhadada and Kumar over Hutchet and Turulj on court three. The Pack's No. 2 doubles team of Gergelyova and vanReek defeated Madison Hale and Weil 7-6.
