Wolf Pack set to open 2018-19 season in Fort Collins

RENO, Nev. – The Nevada women's golf team is set to open the 2018-19 season this coming Monday at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, hosted by Colorado State.

"We've had a great few weeks of practice to begin our fall season," said sixth-year head coach Kathleen Takaishi. "We have a great group of young women that are working hard and pushing each other. I'm excited to get the season started next week. It is very promising to have a freshman playing number one in your lineup."

This marks the eighth straight season that the Wolf Pack has opened its season at this event and 17th time overall dating back to the team's inaugural season in 1997. Nevada has won this tournament twice in its history, going back-to-back in 1999 and 2000.

The field features 13 teams, including last year's winner New Mexico State and Big Ten member Nebraska. The Wolf Pack will have an opportunity early on to see how it stacks up around the Mountain West as three other teams from around the league will be participating such as Boise State, Wyoming and tournament-host Colorado State.

Takaishi added four newcomers to the squad this year, one of whom will play the No. 1 spot in the lineup in her collegiate debut. Freshman Victoria Gailey has made quite the impression in the offseason and will grab the top spot this week. Gailey recorded a top 20 finish at the Girls Junior PGA Championship this summer.

The remainder of the lineup is set with the four returners in juniors Jenny Krause and Katy Rutherford, and seniors Kaitlin Collom and Chaithra Katamneni. Last season Katamneni led all returners with two top 15 finishes and a scoring average of 75.5.

Live scoring for the entire tournament will be available on GolfStat.com.
