Ogden, Utah – In 110 minutes of scoreless play, the Nevada soccer team (2-0-1) tied with Weber St. (0-1-1) on Friday night. The teams combined for 27 shots after playing through double overtime.
The biggest play of the match came with 30 seconds left in the first overtime, when Wolf Pack senior
Angel Meriwether lived up to her name and saved her team by blocking a would-be goal to preserve the tie.
Freshman
Kylie Minamishin led the Pack with five shots on the night, including one on goal in the first half off of a free kick. Stovall posted her second shutout with four saves.
Nevada earned three corner kicks on the night, including one in the final 20 seconds of the second overtime. The Pack tried to blast a couple of shots towards the goal, but they
were blocked by the defense as the clock wound down and the match ended.
One of the best scoring chances for the Pack came with five minutes left in the second half, when Nevada's
Eleanor Small was in a footrace with the Wildcat's goalkeeper to get to the ball that was rolling in front of the net. The keeper barely beat Small, who was unable to get a foot on the ball and give the Pack a lead late.
Nevada will stay in the state this weekend as it travels to face Southern Utah on Sunday at 12 p.m. PT. The Thunderbirds are coming off a 2-0 shutout victory at home over Nevada's intrastate rival UNLV.
A
livestream and
live stats of the match on Sunday will be available. The Pack will be back in Mackay Stadium on Sept. 13 against Hawai'i with tickets
on sale now.
