5-1 against MW opponents

RENO, Nev. – Recording a season-high 17 hits, Nevada (8-6, 5-1 MW) continued its hit parade into Sunday with a 14-4 victory over San Jose State (6-9, 0-5 MW) to sweep the Spartans. The Wolf Pack has now won both conference series this season, with a 5-1 mark in Mountain West play being head coach TJ Bruce's best start to a season at Nevada.

In its first home series of the season, the Pack plated 35 runs in three games, eclipsing double digit runs scored in each contest. The 14 runs scored today are a season high.

Freshman Jake Jackson (3-0) earned his team-high third victory after tossing seven innings only allowing three hits, three earned runs and punching out three Spartans. Senior Keone Cabinian and sophomore Grant Ford pitched the final two frames, only giving up one unearned run.

Nevada got on the board early with Mike Echavia's RBI single to score Joshua Zamora from third and give the Pack the early lead. Echavia is batting .444 in the first inning in 2018 with four RBI.

After retiring the first nine batters, the Spartans broke up Jackson's bid at perfection with a solo shot to left field to tie the game. Echavia would help get that run right back for Nevada, as his leadoff double in the bottom of the fourth allowed Weston Hatten to drive him in with a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-1.

Senior Grant Fennell drove in a run and Cole Krzmarzick scampered home when Daniel Perry grounded into a double play to help Nevada extend its lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth. SJSU went after Jackson in the sixth frame and added two runs, but the freshman kept Nevada's lead at 4-3.

The best offensive inning of the season came in the bottom of the sixth, as the Pack drove home seven runs and went through the entire batting order in the frame. The most notable hits came from Perry and Dillan Shrum, who each drove in two and Nevada ended the inning with an 11-3 lead.

That Pack scored three more runs on the afternoon before Ford shut the door on the Spartans in the ninth inning to clinch Nevada's first series sweep of 2018.

Nevada will be back in action on Tuesday when it travels to play Sacramento State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Live stats of the match will be available.
