Wolf Pack splits doubleheader with UC Riverside on Sunday afternoon

4-1 home record this season

RENO, Nev. – Splitting its doubleheader on Sunday, Nevada (9-7) now sits with a 4-1 record at home this season after one win and a loss to UC Riverside (9-8). Nevada won the first game 3-0 behind Jake Jackson's (4-0) eight shutout innings.

The Wolf Pack got itself on the board early in the first with a Grant Fennell RBI single to score Daniel Perry from second. The scoring continued for the Pack in the bottom of the sixth, when freshman Joshua Zamora hit his team-high third home run over the left field wall to give Nevada a 2-0 lead.

Jackson kept the Highlanders scoreless through eight frames, punching out 10 batters and only allowing four hits. He boasts a team-best 1.05 ERA this season.

The final run was knocked in the same inning by Fennell for his second RBI of the day to make the final score 3-0. Keone Cabinian came in the ninth inning and earned his first save of the season by shutting out the Highlanders in the final frame.

The second contest of the day began with Mark Nowaczewski (2-2) tossing a no-hitter through the first three frames. UCR plated its first two runs of the day in the top of the fourth inning, and exploded in the sixth with six runs to end Nowaczewski's day.

Junior Kaleb Foster blasted his first-career home run over the right field wall in the bottom of the fifth, but Nevada would plate only one more run on the day.

The day ended with a 9-2 Highlanders victory, but it was only the first loss at Don Weir Field at Peccole Park this season for the Wolf Pack. Nevada will hit the road next weekend to play University of San Francisco on Tuesday and a conference series next weekend at Fresno State.
